This gorgeous 19th-century console table was finely crafted from walnut by an artisan in China's Shanxi province. The narrow form would have been ideal for displaying painted scrolls or works of calligraphy. The plank-top surface is supported by square legs linked by floor stretchers and inset with floating panels. These panels are pierced with ruyi designs, auspicious symbols of good fortune and longevity. A fine beaded edge trims the decorative elements, coiling into scalloped cloud-form spandrels atop each leg. The original dark lacquer finish has aged beautifully from centuries of use, lending rich texture to the walnut construction.

What They're Saying

Elizabeth Krueger | Elizabeth Krueger Design

“PAGODA RED was extremely supportive in helping to pull accessory options together for the Lake Forest Showhouse. After providing them with details and our vision on how we were looking to finish our space, Laurene helped curate options that made it easy for us to edit and finalize. It's also no surprise that the unique pieces we used in our showhouse space were some of the first to sell.”
